Golf:Tom Watson rolled back the years as he holed a three-foot birdie putt on the first play-off hole to win the Senior PGA Championship at Valhalla.

The 61-year-old had been down a shot with four holes left in regulation, but he bounced back to become the oldest player to win a major since the Seniors tour was created in 1980 after edging out David Eger.

Watson carded a two-under 70 to finish at 10-under 278 and capture his 14th career major.

This was his second Senior PGA and sixth major since turning 50 to go with five British Open Championships, two US Masters and a US Open.

"It never ceases to be enjoyable, winning a golf tournament," Watson said. "I'm living on borrowed time right now at 61. These young kids are coming out here and hitting the ball so much farther than I do. Their nerves are pretty much still intact."

Eger, more famous as a rules official than as a player, closed with a 67 and both players missed short birdie putts on the 72nd green that would have won it in regulation.
