LET:Suzann Pettersen was crowned the Swiss Open champion after the final round of the competition was cancelled because of a waterlogged course at Golf Gerre Losone.

That meant the standings at the end of the third round, which had Pettersen in pole position on 22 under par, were final, giving the Norwegian the record for the lowest 54-hole aggregate.

Ireland's Rebecca Coakley, who fired a course record on day one, finished tied for 11th on 209, 15 shots behind Pettersen with Martina Gillen back on two-under-par 214.

US TOUR:Rod Pampling charged past Phil Mickelson to grab a two-stroke lead halfway through the final round at the Crowne Plaza Invitational.

Pampling, who started the day one stroke behind overnight leader Mickelson, was two behind after four holes, but he roared into the lead with three birdies in four holes immediately before the turn at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.

The 38-year-old Australian improved to 14 under after nine holes, with Mickelson alone in second place on 12 under.

AMATEUR:Niamh Kitching continued her encouraging run by being the leading Irish competitor in the St Rule Trophy tournament on the Old Course at St Andrews yesterday.

The Claremorris golfer who finished third in the Welsh Open earlier in the month was eighth at St Andrews after a fine second round of 75, lopping five strokes off her morning score.

She was seven strokes behind the winner, Kylie Walker of Scotland.

Karen Delaney produced a battling display in the important event reduced to 36 holes from 54 this year.

Delaney had carded a solid 77 - just one over par - in the morning, but found the windy conditions of the afternoon too difficult and slumped to an 80.

Walker led after round one with a 75, one clear of four players and two ahead of Delaney and Ann Laing, a former winner.
