There will be no turf racing in Britain for the second successive day today as the cold snap continues to cause disruption to the fixture list. Yesterday's meetings at Newbury and Catterick were called off due to frost and snow.

Conditions have not improved and today's scheduled jumps cards at Newbury and Musselburgh have also been abandoned. After an 11.30am inspection yesterday Richard Osgood, clerk of the course at Newbury, said: "We've abandoned tomorrow as well now. It's almost midday and we are still below zero. The forecast for tonight is for temperatures to drop well below zero and they are not likely to rise much tomorrow. With that all taken into consideration the meeting has been called off."

Following the abandonment of Newbury, the Grade One stanjamesuk.com Challow Novices' Hurdle has been transferred to Cheltenham on New Year's Day.

The programme at Musselburgh's went the same way shortly afterwards and Osgood's counterpart at the Scottish track, Anthea Morshead, said: "We've just abandoned. We pulled our inspection forward from 3.30 because we had minus three last night and it was still minus three at nine o'clock and it was still below freezing at noon.

"We have another minus three forecast tonight with a maximum temperature tomorrow of around freezing or just below so we had no chance."

Haydock's meeting tomorrow hinges on a forecast thaw while officials at tomorrow's other jumps fixture at Taunton are "pretty confident" racing will go ahead as planned.

The conditions for Saturday's card at Uttoxeter are "soft, heavy in places, frozen in places".
