And why, you may ask, are we recommending the website of these Belgian giants of football? Between ourselves we're not but David Beausang, who contacted us by email this week, most definitely is. His reasons? "Following Nancy's entry as Website of the Week last week may I propose the website of a Belgian soccer team, Racing Genk. Why include it? 1. Many Irish people have worked in a cheese factory in Genk owned by the Irish Dairy Board. Well, five at least. 2. A Belgian colleague told me, when I worked there, that U2 played there very early on in their career. You should see this place - the only way was up." 3. A Maltese player who played against Ireland was a Genk player for eight years. 4. The web design is uniquely Belgian. 5. Since signing the guestbook (Gastenboek) I now receive news of results from a local supporter. I have also been e-mailed by a Spanish hotel offering me rates when Genk recently played Mallorca in the Cup Winners' Cup."
David? There's just one thing: the site appears to be written entirely in Flemish. "De UEFA verwerpt het beroep dat Genk had ingesteld tegen de uitspraak van de disciplinaire en tuchtkommissie betreffende de wedstrijd Real Mallorca - KRC Genk," said one bit. All we understood was "Genk" and "Real Mallorca", although we'd hazard a guess that "disciplinaire" has something to do with yellow and red cards (no flies on us). But thanks very much anyway David.
