Dermot Weld followed up a treble at the Curragh on Saturday when Rajjaaf landed the Avonmore Waterford Group Classic Trial in front of a bumper crowd at Gowran Park yesterday.
Pat Shanahan gave the Unfuwain colt a strong ride to lead well inside the final furlong for a half length win from Dragon Triumph.
"He is a nice staying horse, and I will find another conditions race for him," said Weld.
Charles O'Brien saddled his first winner of the year when Alonzo, the easy to back 2 to 1 favourite in the Copper Beach Maiden, led over two furlongs out and stayed on under a strong drive from champion Christy Roche for a gutsy neck victory over Amazink.
"My horses have been sick this spring but hopefully they appear to be getting over it now," said the Curragh-based handler afterwards.
John Murtagh lost an iron inside the final furlong of the Sycamore EBF Maiden aboard Mora but the Second Set filly was still able to make a winning debut by three quarters of a length from Magical Peace.
Winning trainer John Oxx said: "She is a bit backward but will be a nice filly in time, and could take her chance in the Guineas Trial at Leopardstown next Sunday."
Murtagh and Oxx completed a double half an hour later when Eymir made all to beat persistent challenger Rahika Rose by a length in the Douglas Fir Handicap.
