Racing: Dermot Weld has not discounted using Leopardstown's Desmond Stakes as a warm-up for a tilt at next month's Prix du Moulin by Refuse To Bend, writes Brian O'Connor
Sunday week's Prix Jacques Le Marois had been scheduled as the likely return date for the 2,000 Guineas winner who failed to stay in the Derby. But that could change.
"The Desmond on the same day is a possibility instead. It's a Group Three worth 30,000 and it could set him up perfectly for the Moulin at Longchamp (September 7th). We'll make a decision next week," Weld said yesterday.
Saturday week will see Weld's Evolving Tactics take in the Grade One Secretariat Stakes at Arlington, where he won the American Derby last month.
However, the trainer's American Oaks heroine, Dimitrova, could bypass the Beverly D Stakes at the Chicago track on the same day.
"She is only a possibility for the Beverly D. She is also in the Del Mar Oaks on the 24th and there is another Grade One at Belmont in early September where she could run instead," he said.
