Wales made it six out of six on their North American tour, and three Test wins in successive weekends, as they came from behind in the final quarter to beat the Pacific Rim champions in Toronto. When Canadian number eight Mike Schmid crossed for his second try 17 minutes from time, to steer the Canadians into a 2521 lead, it looked as though the tourists were heading for defeat.

But a try nine minutes from time by centre Leigh Davies, which Arwel Thomas converted, earned Wales a deserved victory. Wales were behind almost from the start when home full-back Bobby Ross landed a monster 50metre dropped goal but the tourists hit back with a superb long range try by right wing Wayne Proctor, who was launched from the base of a scrum on his 22 by acting skipper Paul John and by half-time the tourists were in 1511 in front after Gareth Thomas had run in a second score.

Arwel Thomas extended the lead with a penalty six minutes after the break but the Canadians fought back and a try by Ross, converted by skipper Gareth Rees, made it 18-18.

Two minutes later Thomas regained Wales the lead with a penalty.New Zealand have finalised plans for their tour of Britain and Ireland this winter after Ireland and Wales agreed to swap Test dates to accommodate the visitors. The All Blacks were not keen on having to play Wales at Wembley on Sunday, November 16th, with a date against Emerging England at Hudderfield the following Tuesday. Ireland have agreed to bring their Test against the tourists forward to Saturday, November 15th.
