SCHOOLS' HOCKEY/Leinster Senior Cup - Wesley College ... 4 Kilkenny ... 0: Wesley College added the Leinster Schools' Senior Cup to their all-Ireland laurels in convincing style at Grange Road yesterday in sweeping to a 4-0 victory over Kilkenny College.

Kilkenny, who had beaten Wesley by a solitary goal in last season's final, never threatened their accomplished opponents on this occasion.

With Neil Lyons as the pivotal figure, Wesley darted into the offensive from the start. They gained the lead after 15 minutes when Glenn Holmes earned a penalty stroke for Neil Young to convert confidently.

Andy McConnell finished off a short corner to make it 2-0 by the interval and two minutes into the second half the incisive Peter Blakeney got a touch to a shot from Michael Maguire to increase the margin decisively. Young added a fourth goal from a centre by Holmes and subsequently bold goalkeeping by James Statham saved Kilkenny from a heavier crushing.

Wesley also won the minor final, carrying off the trophy for the seventh year in a row, in defeating battling King's Hospital a trifle fortuitously, 2-1.

While Wesley were the more skilful side, they only gained control in the closing quarter, having survived a first-half scare when Ross Murray kept out a penalty stroke from Harry Murphy.

Late in the game, Geoff Walker seized a cross from Dave Robinson to put Wesley in front but Murphy forced home a quick equaliser before the talented Mitch Darley sank the winner two minutes from the end.
