NEWS:TALENTED ANNASCAUL and West Kerry wing forward Brendan O'Driscoll (28), was last night fighting for his life at Cork University Hospital as family and team-mates maintained a hospital vigil.
O’Driscoll earlier collapsed while playing for his club in the West Kerry Championship against neighbours Lispole.
O’Driscoll played the previous week for West Kerry and scored a point as they lost out in the Senior Football Championship semi-final to Dr Crokes by a point and is a member of a well known sporting family, who all play with Annascaul.
He was playing with the club yesterday when he collapsed 10 minutes into the second half.
Annascaul were leading 1-4 to 0-4 at the time, with O’Driscoll having contributed 1-1.
Referee Peter Lyons immediately stopped the game.
O’Driscoll received attention from his cousin and team-mate Gene Farrell before a doctor arrived.
O’Driscoll was rushed to Kerry General Hospital. A spokesman for his club said O’Driscoll was described as being in a critical condition.
He was later transferred to Cork University Hospital.
O’Driscoll is also a gifted soccer player. Three years ago, he was capped at junior international level, having played with both Lisselton Rovers and Camp United in the Kerry District League competition.
