Leinster MFC Preliminary round robin/Westmeath 5-17 Carlow 0-5: Westmeath minor footballers learned little of their full potential in this runaway 27-point win over Carlow at Dr Cullen Park, Carlow, on Saturday. The result sees the winners qualify for a home provincial quarter-final clash with Dublin.

Westmeath found the mark with goals in the eighth minute from Brendan Kelly and four minutes later through Alan Giles.

A third goal just before half-time from Conrad Reilly left the visitors 3-7 to 0-2 in front and completely out of Carlow's range.

In the second half Westmeath added 2-8 to Carlow's 0-3. The game was in its 33rd minute before Padraic Amond scored Carlow's first point from play.
