NFL DIVISION THREE Westmeath 0-12 Cavan 1-9:WESTMEATH'S RUN of 15 consecutive league defeats finally ended at Cusack Park yesterday, but they are still waiting for a long overdue win after this draw.
Two late points from impressive substitute Gearóid McKiernan earned Cavan a share of the spoils.
Darren Quinn had denied Cavan full forward Gerard Pearson with a fine save in the ninth minute, but the young Westmeath goalkeeper was caught out by a speculative attempt for a point by Seán Johnston minutes later, and the ball ended up in the net.
Westmeath fought back to draw level by half-time, 0-5 to 1-2.
Points from Dessie Dolan and midfield duo Denis Corroon and John Heslin appeared to have Westmeath primed for victory, but they couldn’t put the visitors away.
In injury time, Westmeath midfielder John Heslin was sent off on a straight red card by Tyrone referee Martin Sludden.
