Water will feature prominently around three greens being built at Westport golf club. At a recent special general meeting the players gave the go-ahead for the development of the seventh, eighth and 18th greens as the first part in a five-year course development programme. Course architect Eddie Connaughton is designing the development.

"It is important to maintain Westport's position in the premier division of golf clubs, It is envisaged that our 18th hole will become a dramatic closing hole and one that will be talked about whenever great holes are discussed," said club captain Pat Kearns.
