Wexford 3-30 Down 0-6:This Division One B victory at Wexford Park yesterday ensures Wexford a place in the quarter-finals while Down end the campaign pointless. The match was sealed as early as the 18th minute as Darren Stamp goals on 10 and 17 minutes saw Wexford race into a 2-6 to 0-1 lead as they went about winning by 30 points or more to seal a quarter-final spot.
The Jacob brothers and Barry Lambert picked off points, with Down managing only three points, two from Brendan McGourty and Paddy Hughes from an 80-metre free. Wexford led 2-13 to 0-3 at the interval.
Stamp, in his new full-forward role, caused havoc around the fringe of the square and his lay-off to Rory Jacob saw him finish splendidly to the net from close range on 50 minutes.
Like the first half, Down could only muster three further points as they were totally outclassed. With the Wexford half-back line of Willie Doran, Keith Rossiter and Ciarán Kenny powering the ball forward, the home side continued to pick off their points.
