Tipperary took a 0-3 to 0-1 lead at the end of the first quarter at Thurles. But Wexford's Lee O'Brien, Willy Carley and Pat Forde did the spadework as they edged 0-5 to 0-3 ahead by the interval. Tipperary could not trim the lead to less than two points.
