WALSH CUP: Wexford 0-20 UCD 1-15WEXFORD DID just about enough at Ferns yesterday as they withstood a late surge from UCD to claim the spoils.
Wexford led 0-7 to 0-4 after 15 minutes, mainly through the accuracy of newcomer Nicky Kirwan, Stephen Doyle and Diarmuid Lyng as UCD were reliant on the accuracy of Maurice Nolan from frees.
Some excellent points through David Redmond, Doyle, Colm Farrell and Lyng helped Wexford extend their lead to nine points at the interval, 0-13 to 0-4.
Trailing 0-17 to 0-8 after 50 minutes, the wind helped UCD and two points apiece from Joe Maher and Maurice Nolan reduced the deficit before David Lyng scored their goal. Lyng added another point but time ran out on UCD.
