On Tuesday the Internet edition of the Daily Mirror attempted to continue its campaign to persuade Manchester United to re-enter the FA Cup but - and we could be wrong - it appeared that some gremlins were busy at work on the paper's website. Heading One: SAVE THE FA CUP: PROPERTY BOOM - "Housewife Val Jones's new home blew up before she had finished moving in after her freezer started a fire at Lechlade, Glos"; Heading Two: SAVE THE FA CUP: DATE FOR A V1CAR - "The car number V1CAR could soon be parked outside a church - it is just one of the personalised plates to be auctioned by the DVLA on Thursday and Friday next week." Puzzled expressions all round.

Arsenal fans might hope that another Mirror story later in the week was also a bit of a cock-up - they claimed that David Seaman will be given a free transfer by the club at the end of the season (and that Barcelona's Ruud Hesp is his intended replacement). The Daily Star reckons that Liverpool's seemingly endless search for a new left-back has taken them to Wimbledon from whom they would very much like to purchase Ben Thatcher while yesterday's Sunday People told us that Posh Spice wants David Beckham to leave Manchester United and "develop an alternative career as a fashion icon". Luckily Alex Ferguson was not available for comment.
