Players and managers reflect on the highs and lows of Sunday's Leinster SFC final in Croke Park.
"The GAA needs Dublin. Dublin need the GAA. I hope the Leinster Council
acknowledge the fact that Kildare and Dublin put 78,000 people into Croke
Park today" "We'll pick up the pieces, even if it's hard to pick them up after a game like that . . . I thought we would win, like there midway through the second half when we were three points up and cruising. Bang, two goals, and that was it. It's hard to recover from a defeat like that"
- Mick O'Dwyer
"Seven long years I've been waiting, and lost four Leinster finals as well.
But we got the few breaks at key times, and hopefully this can have a
knock-on effect and get more kids out on the streets of Dublin playing the
game. The difference for us this year though was the resilience"
- Ciarán Whelan
"At this stage it's just an unbelievable feeling to finally win
the thing. It's all the sweeter after such a wait. It means a hell of a lot
to Dublin football. And we did it the hard way. There is no better way to
win a Leinster title than beating Meath and Kildare on the way. We all played our hearts out"
- Peader Andrews
"I thought we were getting on top of things. But this game does swing in roundabouts and those two goals destroyed us, very similar, though, to the two quick goals we got in 2000. I suppose these things always come back to haunt you, but that was definitely the difference in the game"
