ALLWEATHER racing may not be to everyone's taste but it will almost certainly look a worthwhile venture in two months' time if the Christmas racing programme is cancelled by bad weather.

For those who back Another Batchworth in the opening Taurus Handicap (Division One) at Lingfield today, its appeal should be more immediately apparent.

Eric Wheeler's Beveled filly has enjoyed a fruitful recent run, winning a Nottingham handicap and a Redcar minor event before succumbing to Superbit in a similar event on the former course last time out.

A previous winner on the sand, Another Batchworth should be able to claim the far rail from stall two and will take plenty of catching.

If an uncomfortable majority of racegoers at Market Rasen are wearing John Lennon glasses, sporting goatee beards and talking in unnecessarily loud voices, do not be alarmed.

The track is, staging its "Students in Free" day.

Market Rasen's first race, for conditional jockeys, announces the fact and looks to provide a sound opportunity for Mary Reveley's Mill Thyme to make a successful reappearance.

The filly had eight races during her first season over hurdles and performed consistently, making the frame on five occasions.

She won two of those starts, claiming a 25 runner juvenile event at Nottingham in December and beat Level Edge by three lengths in a claiming hurdle at Carlisle in April.

A reproduction of either of those runs gives Mill Thyme a solid chance on the book and although she has not been campaigned on the Flat during the summer, her trainer is adept at getting her horses fit after a lengthy absence.

Lee has plenty of experience for a conditional jockey and the combination should prove too strong for Malcolm Jefferson's Anabranch.

At Musselburgh, Les Eyre's Arian Spintcan gain a repeat course and distance win in the Musselburgh November Handicap.
