Whitley will win his first cap at any level against the World Cupbound Spanish.

Meanwhile Newcastle boss Kenny Dalglish has signed Sunderland goalkeeper Lionel Perez on a free transfer. He joins Republic of Ireland international goalkeeper Shay Given, at St James' Park.
