Wicklow, now the only team in the league with a 100 per cent record, moved to the position of outright leaders of this division with this five-point win over Antrim at Aughrim yesterday.
Lining out without star forward Kevin O'Brien for a second successive game, Wicklow's display was not totally convincing, and they failed to score in the final quarter. Wicklow led 1-6 to 0-4 at the break, thanks to a Stephen Byrne goal before half-time, but then they had to play virtually the entire second half with only 14 men, after corner back Mark Coffey was sent off for an off-the-ball incident.
For a brief period thereafter Wicklow upped their game and five points from Terry McGivern, Trevor Doyle, Conan Daye, Darren Coffey and Stephen Byrne, with only two in reply for Antrim, set up this victory.
There were also good performances for Wicklow from Fergus Daly at midfield and Hugh Kenny and Robert Doyle in defence.
