Michelle Wie (14), admitted she had been nervous after shooting five bogeys and three birdies in a two-over-par 72 to finish nine shots behind first round leader Carlos Franco of Paraguay in the opening round of the Sony Open in Hawaii on Thursday.
Franco carded a seven-under- par 63, with Jesper Parnevik finishing late with a 65 to end the round in second place - one shot ahead of Ted Purdy, David Ishii of Japan, Trinidad's Stephen Ames, Craig Barlow, Aaron Baddeley of Australia and Briton Luke Donald.
Ireland's Darren Clarke carded a moderate one-over-par 71. Clarke reached the turn in one-under-par 34 but double bogeyed the 11th in a back nine of one-over-par 37.
