Michelle Wie looked destined to finish last after another miserable round at the $4.6 million 84 Lumber Classic.
The 16-year-old carded a nine-over-par 81 for a 14-over 158 total as she suffered a similar fate to last week at the European Masters in Switzerland where she finished last.
Honolulu resident Wie, who has only once made the cut playing with the men, was never in with a shout of achieving that feat after dropping six shots in her opening six holes.
Americans Ben Curtis and Ryan Moore took the second round clubhouse lead.
Curtis, the 2003 British Open champion, posted a three-under-par 69 on a cool, overcast morning at the Mystic Rock course at Nemacolin Resort.
Former US amateur champion Moore was even better, shooting 67 to tie for the lead at nine-under 135, two strokes ahead of South African Rory Sabbatini, Englishman Greg Owen and Americans Kent Jones and Steve Stricker.
"I made it pretty easy on myself," said Curtis. "I hit every fairway. The only bad shot I really hit was on No. 11, my second shot, into the water. Other than that I played extremely well." Reuters
