Wilson's Hospital came good in the second half to reach the semi-final at Athy yesterday. Richard Powell opened the scoring with a try in the 43rd minute after the sides had played out a dour first half without managing a score.
Wilson's consolidated their advantage when winger Keith Newton crossed the line midway through the second half after good tackling by Ryan Lindsey and Aidan Finnan put an end to a promising Good Counsel attack.
A second try by Powell, converted by Matthew Ethell in injury time, made sure of the win, although Good Counsel tried hard until the final whistle.
A well-timed tackle by Philip O'Shea earlier in the second half prevented another Wilson's Hospital try by Tom Hargroves in the corner.
