LIMERICK FC ended a four month wait for a win when captain Albert Finnan delivered the only goal six minutes from time to beat St Francis at Baldonnel yesterday.

The move for the goal was straight from the training ground as Ger Constable knocked down Ray O'Halloran's long free for the lurking Finnan to power the ball home with a first time shot from 12 yards.

Limerick had the better of the first half but were thwarted on their two best scoring chances by Mark Clohessy in the St Francis goal, saving twice from Gareth Ryan.

Though St Francis got well on top throughout the second half, the Limerick goalkeeper, Eddie Hickey, produced a good save to deprived Ciaran Duffy mid way through while both Thomas Clarke and John Patton were guilty of bad misses.

Two late goals from in form striker Trevor Molloy saw Athlone Town come from behind to beat Cobh Ramblers at St Colman's Park on Saturday night. Tony Izzi had given Cobh the lead after 60 minutes when heading home Paul Coughlan's corner.

But Molloy equalised 12 minutes later after great work on the left by player/manager Terry Eviston. Then, with Cobh pressing, Molloy struck again three minutes from time when he blasted home a cross from Davy Collins.

Galway United's topsy turvy season continued as they were beaten 2-1 at Strokestown Road as Longford Town recorded their first win in almost three months. Galway's Brian Irwin didn't help his side's cause by getting sent off after 20 minutes following an off the ball incident with Paul Brady. Padraig Dully then headed Longford in front eight minutes before half time from a superb cross from the right by Kieran Rooney.

The introduction of teenage winger Frankie Larkin, at halftime caused Galway more problems and he instigated Longford's second goal in the 72nd minutes when he beat three defenders before Galway's Conor Killeen could only manage to help his shot into his own net. John Brennan snatched Galway's consolation goal two minutes from time.
