Darren Clarke's first European Tour win in five years has propelled him up to 112th in the latest world rankings, a move of some 124 places.

Clarke ended the drought yesterday with a dramatic final-hole at the BMW Asian in Shanghai, a win that reignited his prospects of a fifth Ryder Cup appearance.

The 39-year-old holed a birdie putt on the last to secure the win and spoke afterward of his desire to be involved in Valhalla.

"If I qualify for the Ryder Cup team that would be fantastic," said Clarke. "That is back as a realistic goal now. I have given myself a bit of a boost but there is still a long way to qualify for the team.

"There is nothing that helps your confidence like wining, whatever way you do it, and it feels good. My focus is to keep playing as good a golf as I can and I do desperately want to be at Valhalla, but we will see."

Adam Scott, meanwhile, climbs five places to number five in the rankings following his play-off win at the Byron Nelson Championship.

Padraig Harrington, not in action over the weekend, remains the highest ranked Irish player at 11th with Graeme McDowll the next best in 60th position.
