US Tour News: Tiger Woods won his fifth consecutive tournament on the PGA Tour when a brilliant final round of 63 brought him victory in the Deutsche Bank Championship in Boston last night. Woods completed a 16-under-par total of 268 to win by two strokes from Vijay Singh.

Trailing Singh by three shots overnight, Woods made a blistering start with two eagles in the first seven holes to pull three strokes ahead and reached the turn on 14-under-par. His first eagle came on the 554-yard, par-five second hole, where he reached the green in two, leaving a 10-foot putt for eagle.

The American pumped his fist as he quickly ate into Singh's overnight lead. His second eagle was on the 600-yard, par-five seventh, where Woods, leading by one stroke, marched to the green in two strokes to massive applause and then sank a 12-foot putt.

Singh refused to buckle, however, and was back only two behind thanks to a 30-foot birdie putt on the 12th and it looked like he might get closer two holes later, only for Woods to save par from the rough again.

Singh must have thought he would narrow the gap to one when he almost holed his approach at the par four 15th, but Woods holed a 12-foot birdie putt of his own to maintain his two-stroke margin.

Both men had makeable birdie putts at the 16th which they failed to convert but Woods made no mistake with a 30-footer at the next to give him a three-stroke lead going to the final tee.

Singh birdied the par five closing hole but it was too little too late against a player on such an irresistible run of form.

Britain's Justin Rose, the halfway leader and joint second with Woods after 54 holes, bogeyed four of the first five holes but finished with a 72 for a share of fourth place.

Des Smyth shot a final round of 70 to finish four shots behind former US Open champion Scott Simpson in a tie for seventh place at the First Tee Open at Pebble Beach on the Champions Tour on Sunday.

Simpson made an eight-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole for a four-under par final round of 68 and a one-stroke victory over Jay Haas and Danny Edwards.

Simpson, who began the final round trailing Tom Kite by two strokes, captured his first Champions Tour title with a 12-under 204 total.
