Tiger Woods didn't show up at Sawgrass yesterday; but, then, maybe he was entitled to a day off. In winning the Bay Hill Invitational on Sunday, the world number one won his third title in four appearances on tour this season - and, in the process, also had to combat food poisoning.
Instead of heading on to Sawgrass, Woods - whose win in Bay Hill was his fourth successive victory in that particular tournament, joining Walter Hagen and Gene Sarazen as the only players in US Tour history to achieve such a feat - decided to rest and recuperate.
"I just want to get healthy again," said Woods, who spent much of his final round in Bay Hill ducking under the rope in search of a place to get sick.
Woods decided to bypass yesterday's practice round - but it's not as if he is unfamiliar with the course at Sawgrass, having won the title here in 2001.
"I know the golf course and know how to play it," he insisted. "It's just a matter of getting a feel for the speed of the greens and the fairways, and that doesn't take too long."
