Cork City - 1 Bohemians - 0: Billy Woods was Cork City's match-winner before 4,000 spectators at Turner's Cross last night where a single goal did not reflect their superiority over Bohemians.
Cork played some entertaining football, especially in the first half when John O'Flynn looked a rejuvenated force after his recent absence because of injury. They regularly opened up the Bohemians defence but failed to get past the impressive Stephen O'Brien in the Bohemians goal.
Cork dominated the opening half impressively and deservedly took the lead after 24 minutes. A corner by Neale Fenn on the right was headed across goal by Alan Bennett for Billy Woods to score with a half-volley.
The chances continued to be created but Colin O'Brien mis-hit an attempted volley from 14 yards, John O'Flynn sliced an attempted volley and Dan Murray missed the target with a header.
Bohs stepped up their game immediately after the interval as Cork appeared to relax their effort. They played at a faster tempo and succeeded in maintaining pressure for longer periods on the Cork defence. But all to no avail as Cork kept the pressure on leaders Shelbourne.
