Tiger Woods will not play in the PGA Grand Slam of Golf, which takes place at the Mid Ocean Club in Bermuda in October.

The world number one said The Presidents Cup at Royal Montreal in two weeks will be his last event until he hosts the Target World Challenge in December.

The break will allow Woods to spend time with his family including daughter Sam Alexis, who was born the day after the US Open in June.

"I am sorry that I will not be able to spend some time with my friends at The PGA of America and experience the beauty of Bermuda this year at the PGA Grand Slam of Golf," Woods said.

"It's been a long year. And, given some new, personal obligations, it is very important that I take some extended time off and spend it with my family."

Jim Furyk, winner of the 2003 US Open, will replace Woods and take on Masters Champion Zach Johnson, Argentinian US Open Champion Angel Cabrera and British Open Champion Padraig Harrington of Ireland.
