The wife of Ryder Cup captain Ian Woosnam was banned from a British Airways flight as she was "unfit to travel", it has been revealed.

Glendryth Woosnam (45), was not allowed to board a BA flight from Gatwick to Barbados.

Mrs Woosnam, whose husband's European team triumphed over the Americans in the Ryder Cup at The K Club last month, said that she was "a bit woozy" when she checked in for last week's flight.

She added: "I have no doubt that the airline took the right decision in not letting me board the plane.

"I have certainly learned a lesson. I was partying with friends the evening before my flight and when I woke up I took, as always, medication to help me on the long transatlantic flight."

It was also reported that the mother of three had sworn at one of the BA managers at the time of the incident, but had now apologised to the the manager and sent her flowers.

A BA spokesman said: "A female passenger was refused travel of flight BA 2155 Gatwick to Barbados service as she was deemed unfit to travel."
