GOLF: South Korean YE Yang has climbed more than 300 places in the world rankings after capturing his first US Tour victory at the Honda Classic in Florida.

The 37-year-old, who had not had a top 10 finish in his previous 28 events in the States, moves up from 460th to 146th.

Yang, who beat American John Rollins by one shot, earned himself a place in next month’s Masters at Augusta plus this week’s WGC-CA Championship in Miami, where Tiger Woods will continue his comeback from injury. Woods was in the field when Yang won the 2006 HSBC Champions in Shanghai.

Rory McIlroy remains 16th in the standings after finishing joint 13th at the Honda, his second event competing as a professional in America. Darren Clarke slipped off the pace with a closing 74 in Florida and dropped one place to 76th in the world.
