TONY YEBOAH helped end Leeds United's 23 years without a cup final appearance on Sunday and yesterday he said that he believed that he could put his side on the road to a second Wembley trip in the space of six weeks at Port Vale tonight. (Sky Sports, 7.45).
Yeboah, a scorer in the club's League Cup semi final win, is hoping to end Port Vale's giant killing run. "It was fantastic for me to know that we're going to Wembley once, but if we win at Port Vale we'll really believe we can go there twice," said the 27 year old Ghanaian striker, whose goal against Birmingham was his 7th of his the season.
"We really think we've got a great chance in the FA Cup, especially after Sunday. We're out of the league and we've been able to concentrate on the cups. If we can win we won't worry too much about Liverpool or Charlton in the next round. We'll be at home and we think we can get to Wembley again."
Yeboah admitted that playing alongside South African Phil Masinga had made him feel happier than he had been in recent weeks, when he had been used as a sole striker.
"Every time Phil has come in he's scored," said Yeboah. "He played with confidence, tried to keep the ball and pass it around and it was good for me to play alongside him. If we play with two strikers, especially when we've got Rod Wallace and Brian Deane out wide, it gives me more chance to score."
What the Leeds fans did not want to see on Sunday was Tony Dorigo being stretchered off after an early, accidental clash with Steve Claridge. If the England international is not fit as seems likely - Wilkinson could give Lucas Radebe his first start of the season at left back.
Port Vale manager John Rudge is likely to be without striker Martin Foyle, still suffering from the bug which ruled him out of the first game, and with no additional injuries is likely to stick with the team on duty last week.
"The players have to rise to the occasion again, as they did against Everton twice and then at Leeds," said Rudge. "Then we have to hope we can take the chances we didn't take at Leeds, take the second opportunity as we did against Everton. We've only lost two of the last 19 games in league and cup and as a result the confidence is high."
