If Glenanne cut down on the several frenetic passages which marked their 3-2 win over Corinthians, they can stave off the title holders Pembroke Wanderers in the finishing straight of the Leinster Senior League. But how long will they remain as champions? Who's turn is it next in the cycle? It could be Monkstown in a few years' time, to be followed by YMCA when they return to Claremont Road.

Admittedly, Three Rock Rovers were not firing on all cylinders at Ballinteer on Saturday but vigorous YMCA showed distinct prospects for the future. They should have won by more than the goal driven home by Michael Fry in the second half, for Jason Milne had a penalty stroke kept out by Shane Davey and Peter Fox crashed a shot against an upright.

Earlier, it was a relief to Glenanne when Colin Stewart limped off with hamstring trouble at Whitechurch Park. Corinthians still scavenged the lead through Mark Magnier but Graham Shaw engineered a penalty for Stephen Butler to equalise.

Although Colin Ross and Colin Campbell mounted stout resistance after the break and Peter Darley remained defiant between the posts, Alan Browne increased the pressure for Shaw and Butler to push the visitors relatively safely ahead from set pieces, before a reply came at a late stage from Robbie Burns.

Pembroke gained a low-key 2-0 win over Avoca with early goals from Paudie Carley and Gordon Elliott at Grange Road while Monkstown moved into third place in overpowering Clontarf. In the surprise of the day, Railway Union went under to Aer Lingus at the airport, where Dave Bane netted the only goal and Nigel Grothier also excelled.
