Yom Jameel to win for Fallon

YOM JAMEEL, an impressive winner at York's Ebor 10 days ago, can follow up in the Listed Chester Rated Stakes today. Michael Stoute's colt gave Walter Swinburn his first winner on the Knavesmire since his horrific accident in February when winning the valuable Melrose Rated Stakes Handicap. Today, it is Kieren Fallon who stands to benefit.

A half brother to the disqualified 1991 Hardwicke Stakes winner Topanoora, he did not race as a juvenile but has shown plenty of ability this season. He got off the mark on his second start, producing a strong run to deny Peter Chapple Hyam's Axford by half a length in a Kempton maiden.

He then acquitted himself with credit in two conditions races, and then had a 10 week break before making his handicap debut at York. The assessor had taken no chances with him, as he was forced to carry top weight of 9st 7lb. That proved not to be a problem, however, as he proved with his defeat of Barry Hills' Wilawander.

Sent to the front over two furlongs out by Swinburn, Yom Jameel stayed on well close home, despite his rider appearing to lose his irons, holding the runner up by three quarters of a length. The step up to an extended mile and five furlongs clearly suited him well, and there is no doubt that the colt is a progressive horse, still in credit with the handicapper.

Fallon, due to take over as Henry Cecil's stable jockey in 1997, is riding in rare form at the moment and the combination should be up to winning again.

Of their rivals, the biggest danger may come from Snow Princess. Lord Huntingdon's filly finished well beaten in the Tote Ebor last time, but improved in leaps and bounds last year, as she showed when winning the November Handicap at Doncaster. She is clearly useful, but looks best at two miles.

At Sandown, the Listed Lyceum Atalanta Stakes over a mile can go to Solar Crystal.
