Young Munster RFC have sent a letter to the IRFU threatening a High Court injunction if the issue over the eligibility of Dolphin player Andrew O'Driscoll is not investigated through a tribunal.
Club officers were angry over a newspaper report last Saturday that claimed they had withdrawn their objection to O'Driscoll lining out for Dolphin.
The All-Ireland League committee dismissed the Young Munster objection to O'Driscoll's selection in the Dolphin squad that played Bective Rangers on April 29th on two counts. A club cannot object to a game they are not involved in and, secondly, the seven-day timeframe to object had passed. This was the correct decision under All-Ireland League regulations.
In response, Young Munster sent a strongly-worded letter to the IRFU citing IRFU regulation 6.71 that it is the duty of a club or branch to report any breach of rule. The club will "seek an order of mandamus in the High Court" if the IRFU refuse to set up the required tribunal to investigate the O'Driscoll case.
Young Munster accepted the decision regarding the second objection - to O'Driscoll's selection against Young Munster in the AIL Division Two semi-final on May 6th. Dolphin won the match 26-24 but the committee ruled last Thursday O'Driscoll was ineligible and the match must be replayed.
