A man arrested over the seizure of an estimated €650,000 worth of benzodiazepine tablets has been released without charge, with gardaí to prepare a file for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The man was arrested on Thursday evening, after gardaí from the Dundalk drugs unit stopped and searched a vehicle on Bellewsbridge Road, Dundalk, Co Louth.

An estimated €650,000 worth of suspected benzodiazepine tablets were found in bin bags in the vehicle.

The man, aged in his 30s, was detained and questioned in Dundalk Garda Station, under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.

A Garda spokeswoman said the man had been released without charge on Friday, and a file would be prepared for the DPP .
