Woman found dead in Westport is named as inquiry continues

The deceased was originally from Poland and had been living in Co Mayo for some time

Garda investigations are ongoing into the death of a 40-year-old woman who was found dead in her apartment in Westport, Co Mayo on Saturday last.

The deceased was officially named on Wednesday as Syliia Adamczyk, originally from the Podz area of Poland, who had been working in Westport for some time.

The alarm was raised after her body was discovered in an apartment on Castlebar Street, Westport, early on Saturday afternoon.

It is believed she may have been dead for several days.

A postmortem examination was carried out on Sunday by a forensic pathologist, Dr Heidi Okkers.

Dr Okkers’ findings are not being released by gardaí for operational reasons.

A family member has arrived in Mayo to arrange for the repatriation of the remains to Poland from the morgue at Mayo University Hospital, Castlebar.
