Cabinet subcommittee to discuss €400 monthly payment for hosting Ukrainians

The monthly payment of up to €400 to people hosting Ukrainian refugees will be discussed at the first meeting of a high-powered Cabinet subcommittee today.

The meeting of Coalition leaders will take place at 2.30pm today, with the payment on the agenda alongside a host of other issues such as accommodation and education for refugees.

One source said the focus will be on how the payment will be administered, whether people will have to apply for it or whether it will be given as an automatic allocation to all who have accepted refugees.

The intention, a Coalition source said, is that it would likely be a flat rate payment to minimise the logistical complexity of administering it – which would mean it would not vary depending on how many people were being homed, or where the property is in the country.
