Cheaper electric cars

Sir, – Now that the car has changed from being a mostly mechanical product to a largely electronic one, will cars become exponentially better and cheaper over time, as all electronic goods have become over the last 25 years?

Can we begin to hope for an Ikea car, or its equivalent?

Or will the powerful car lobby win out, and will governments be unable to remove their snouts from the tax trough that is motoring?
