Sir, – Dublin Airport is served by over 750 bus departures per day. That sounds great on paper. Unfortunately, it is somewhat less impressive when you look more closely.
On Tuesday (April 26th), the airport offered 277 flight departures.
If one assumes 50 passengers per bus and 180 passengers per aircraft, then you have 12,360 passengers per day who will have no choice but to use private transport to arrive at the airport. Furthermore, this figure assumes that all passengers have a bus that will take them from their origin at a suitable time, and that all buses will depart fully loaded – a situation best described as unlikely.
A direct and frequent link to national rail and the Dart is long overdue. – Yours, etc,
RICHARD
