Sir, – Dithering over climate change is so last season. If we believe in freedom, now’s the time to start removing our eggs, gently but rapidly, from Mr Putin’s basket. Massive new investments in solar panels, wind farms, recharging points for electric vehicles, car-sharing incentives: these and similar policies need instant expansion. Such a move will strengthen Europe and shift the balance of power. Missiles and nuclear plants not required.
We have a six-month window to get this rolling before winter comes back, and Ireland is in a position to take the lead, peacefully but effectively. – Yours, etc,
