Sir, – While researching my late father’s memoir, A Leaf in the Wind, detailing his years living in Dalkey, I recall chatting with Tommy Kavanagh, a man who was born and bred in one of the cottages at Bullock Harbour. He assured me that he wasn’t from Dalkey, as local people would normally suggest.
Rather, Tommy was a proud native of what he called “Independent Bullock”, which is probably a good enough reason for the picturesque harbour spot to have its own Co Dublin place name, separate to Dalkey, Sandycove and, most definitely, the postal area of Glenageary.
– Yours, etc,
MICHAEL CULLEN,
