Sir, – I disagree with Kevin McLoughlin (Letters, January 31st) when he states that the term grandparent is ageist and should be replaced. I'm a grandad and I'm proud and happy to be one. It's a grand role coming at a grand stage in life. In my case my grandchildren even call me "Gaga".
I have no difficulty with being pigeonholed into this senior role, and am very happy to be called a grandparent, especially when I consider the alternative of either being bereft of grandchildren or being six feet under.
Long live grandparents! – Yours, etc,

Sir, – My three teenage grandchildren call me by my Christian name and always did, in spite of the early difficulties pronouncing it. I would hope that when I die I will be referred to respectfully as that “grand old lady” called Brenda! – Yours, etc,
