Sinn Féin and climate change

Sir, – Stephen Collins focuses on the Dáil arithmetic challenging Sinn Féin from automatically leading the next government, citing precedent of achieving largest party status not always being enough ("Sinn Féin ascent to power may not be as simple as it looks", Opinion, November 5th).

I contend a bigger barrier is the tension from the populism of looking both ways at once. Supporting climate change initiatives whilst opposing a carbon tax, or wanting to strengthen local authority services whilst voting for a 15 per cent reduction in local property tax in Dublin, is not joined-up thinking and in a programme for government Sinn Féin can’t continue to fudge key issues.

– Yours, etc,

KENNETH HARPER,
