Sporting facilities

A chara, – Every week thousands of volunteers organise and manage tens of thousands of young people in their participation in various sports. At a time when anti-social behaviour is becoming a major problem across the country, it would be more appropriate to view grants to sporting organisations, be it the GAA, the IRFU, the FAI, or any other sporting group, as an acknowledgement of their invaluable contribution to the welfare of society and enrichment of the social fabric of our communities rather than as a “gift”, and especially not a gift with a message attached, which says, “we now part-own you”, as seems to be the case with Páirc Uí­ Chaoimh. – Yours, etc,
