Sir, – A letter writer notes (Letters, November 5th) that Dundalk IT "now stands alone as the only regional institute of technology excluded from the current wave of TU designations".
However, what is to stop Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology and Dundalk IT from starting negotiations on becoming TU Leinster – a brand name already well known in other circles?
– Yours, etc,

Sir, – In asking “Where is the TU for the northeast?” Seamus Grant (Letters, November 5th) poses a question of immense educational, economic and cultural importance for this region.
However, given that Dundalk Institute of Technology’s leadership has re-invented its relevant catchment area as North Leinster South Ulster, an expensive conceptual fiddling while the institute’s status burns, a further question might be: “Where is the northeast for the TU?”. – Yours, etc,
KEVIN HOWARD,
Blackrock, Co Louth.
