Sir, – I see that Ulster Rugby has released a statement saying that its players are saddened at the departure of Stuart Olding and Paddy Jackson from its team ("Ulster Rugby maintains ban on news journalists", April 24th).
Is Ulster Rugby saddened at the disgusting content of their messages or the despicable way that they discussed women? Perhaps it is saddened by the disgusting photographs from Malone Rugby Club? Or perhaps it is saddened at the banning of certain sections of the media from its press conferences?
Sadness is a strange emotion. It can be something meaningful and real, or it can be just a word and mean nothing.
Words can have many meanings, so I will use two that are not ambiguous – “arrogance” and “entitlement”. – Yours, etc,
ANNE GALLAGHER,
Sligo.
