Sir, – Ben Bulben is one of the most recognisable mountains in the whole country and it offers wonderful views.
It is a highly popular climb for locals and tourists and deserves a dedicated climbing path to the plateau and summit. This would add greatly to Sligo’s tourism amenities.
At the same time, the interests of landowners have to be considered, including adequate fencing and purchase, at agricultural rates, of the narrow strip of land required, or an annual rent. The development of Sligo’s potential requires that a deal is reached that respects private property and the common good. – Yours, etc,
