Dunnes Stores French wine sale offers plenty to choose from

Wines for the Weekend: Two whites that are perfectly good to drink on their own but also pair well with lighter dishes

The Alaina Blanc from Laurent Miquel and Bonfils L’Esparrou Vin Orange are reduced at Dunnes Stores

Dunnes Stores’ French wine sale will continue until October 14th and includes plenty of very well-priced wines. In addition to the wines below, I can recommend their two Crémant de Limoux (€16.80 down from €21), very attractive sparkling wines from the south of France.

If you are a fan of sparkling wines, the Lombard Blanc de Blancs, one of my favourite Champagnes, is a bargain, reduced to €41.60. This is half the price of some of the better-known brands. For a warming red, I would certainly recommend the Château Cazal Viel, a bargain at €10 a bottle.

The two wines below are unusual for different reasons. The Vin Orange is not flavoured with oranges but has been fermented on the grape skins, giving it a deeper colour and interesting flavours. The Alaina is bottled in “wild glass”, a production process that uses the maximum amount of recycled glass.
