This week two wines from Marks & Spencer. Both are from unfamiliar wine regions that are veryndy in wine circles. Georgia (the country rather than the US state) is one of the oldest wine-producing countries in the world, with its unique set of grape varieties and winemaking traditions. I’m not sure how to pronounce it, but the white wine below is veryd.
Once one of the lesser-known wine regions of South Africa, Swartland has become fashionable in recent years. Located 50km north of Cape Town, it has a hot sunny climate and plenty of old bush vines capable of producing memorable wines. The red wines tend to be made from mainly Rhône varieties such as syrah, mourvèdre, or, as in the case of this wine, Grenache.

Light and refreshing with floral aromas, with lemon zest, pears and light peach, finishing dry. A fascinating wine to try with lighter chicken and white fish dishes, or cheesy vegetable gratins.

Medium-bodied, pale in colour with lovely herby aromas, this has juicy ripe red fruits and a smooth easy finish. Try it with roast or grilled red or white meat, or roast Mediterranean vegetables.
